+Q: Where is WISH UWMC located?
As of June 2024, WISH-UWMC has moved into its new permanent location on the 2nd floor of the HSB, T-WING (T239 Suite)
+Q: When did WISH UWMC open?
WISH UWMC opened in 2007 and provides simulation and training facilities to more than 30 departments and programs across the UW Medicine enterprise.
+Q: What additional training is offered at WISH UWMC?
The training reach of WISH UWMC extends beyond the WISH facility into the University of Washington Medical Center through in-situ training sessions and weekly resident training sessions with the Department of Anesthesiology’s Transesophageal Echocardiography (TEE) lab.
WISH UWMC training is supplemented by the Center for Video Endoscopic Surgery (CVES) laboratory. The CVES lab is a 950 sq. ft. facility on the 6th floor of the UW Health Sciences Center and supports an extensive array of educational programs in open and minimally-invasive surgical techniques for medical students and residents in surgical disciplines.
Harborview Medical Center
WISH was proud to expand its training reach across the UW Medicine Health system with the expansion of its training program to a second WISH facility in January 2010. WISH HMC is 8,000 feet of versatile simulation space located on the 3rd floor of Harborview Medical Center’s Ninth & Jefferson building.
+Q: What type of rooms and equipment does WISH HMC have?
WISH HMC includes conference facilities, a classroom, virtual trauma bay, dry-lab skills area, virtual O.R., computing workstations and a reconfigurable nine-station wet/dry lab which accommodates cadaveric courses as well as dry lab simulations.
+Q: What makes WISH HMC unique?
WISH HMC is a state-of-the-art resource, utilizing specialty specific simulation and training focused on the needs of the region’s only Level I Trauma Center. All WISH HMC facilities have been specifically designed for multi-purpose use. Reconfigurable walls and mobile equipment allow for quick transitioning of the facility to accommodate an extensive variety of courses and group sizes.
Additional Facility Collaborations
+Northwest Hospital & Medical Center
Collaboration across UW Medicine entities continues to bolster support for simulation education and training from administration and hospital leadership. UW Medicine’s expansion to the former Northwest Hospital and Medical Center has allowed for additional medical student and nursing training opportunities at the WISH facility at UW Medical Center Northwest. Hospital leadership is currently reviewing course offerings and training foci at UWMC Northwest to allow for the most efficient and standardized training across the system.
