TIPS Data and Results

Over the last 3 years, our team has collected pre/post data from past TIPS Course participants. Our past participants have come from a variety of backgrounds. To date, we have had participants from hospitals and health departments in 26 states, Puerto Rico, and Washington D.C.. 75% have been Infection Preventionists, 60% reported working with a small or rural site.

Past TIPS course participants have shown a statistically significant increase in confidence in the skills associated with the learning objectives in the following modules:

• IPC Level Setting

• Education Basics

• Introduction to Simulation

• Education Design and Delivery

The remainder of the modules have undergone revisions over time, and we do not have enough assessment responses to assess for statistical significance.

Below we have provided the data on participants' confidence levels in our course objectives pre and post participating in the course. We continued to refine our objectives throughout the course, which is reflected in the varying total number of responses.

Course Testimonials

“I loved the simulations you did with the limited stuff that you had. It really worked and gave me the idea that I don't need to have a real hospital room with a real patient to teach something. People are willing to use their imagination and engage. So, I think that speaks to the confidence building you did.”

“The games and activities really got people engaged. Most IPs are introverts, they love looking at surveillance and data analysis, and less of the teaching/educator aspect. You got people to talk and you should feel good about that part because a lot of these people don’t speak up. And the fact that they felt comfortable doing that was a credit to you all.”

“Since this course I have tried to focus more on the needs of the different people I work with versus what I know I need to tell them. So, tailoring what I do to the individual. Versus, here’s my agenda, here's what I want to do.”

“I have enjoyed this course and am excited to use everything I have learned!”

“It was really good to see how to do a more compressive scenario-based simulation without high-tech supplies.”

“I’ve enjoyed the course and thank your team for their innovative ideas and willingness to share with us in Louisiana.”

“Completing the personal styles assessment and the activity that followed was excellent! This would be a great activity to do with other health educators for them to understand their own style and to better understand the styles that may be present among learners to develop more effective training/education.”

“I keep the plan I made on my wall and refer back to it often! It gave me a foundation to build on.”
