The WWAMI Institute for Simulation in Healthcare (WISH) would like to thank Dr. Paul Ramsey, UW Medicine CEO, for his recent message highlighting WISH in the UW Medicine Online Newsletter on March 20, 2015.
Paul Ramsey called attention to WISH educational efforts, noting that in 2014 WISH engaged 13,500 learners in 2014, totaling over 73,000 hours. Learners include local, national, and international physicians, nurses, and students. Learning occurred in many facilities, including sites at UW Medical Center, Harborview Medical Center, Northwest Hospital & Medical Center’s Community Health Education and Simulation Center, and the Boise VA Medical Center.
Another focus was WISH's expanded team training efforts. Entering the 6th year as a regional training center for Team Strategies and Tools to Enhance Performance and Patient Safety (TeamSTEPPS), WISH has trained 500 master trainers from 90 local, national and international institutions. These master trainers take the fundamentals of TeamSTEPPS to their own institution or department, and teach others communication strategies and skills.
Additionally, WISH worked in collaboration with UW Organizational Development and Training (OD&T) to roll out a new team training model, Team Collaboration for Organizational Excellence (TeamCORE). TeamCORE combines TeamSTEPPS skills with training in relational coordination, conflict management and interprofessional collaborative practice.
